The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held their 16th Governors Awards Sunday at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood. This annual event produced by Jennifer Fox, is a hot item for many filmmakers, stars, and potential Oscar winners. According to the Academy the statuette is given to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy.

Two time winner for best director Alejandro González Iñárritu presented Tom Cruise with his Honorary Oscar. Star of ‘Wicked For Good‘ Cynthia Erivo, presented Honorary Oscar to choreographer and actor Debbie Allen. Academy award winner Octavia Spencer presented Honorary Oscar to legendary production designer Wynn Thomas. Thomas is widely recognized as the first African American production designer and has worked with directors such as Spike Lee, Tim Burton and Ron Howard.
The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award was presented to legendary country singer Dolly Parton. Due to past publicized health issues, Ms. Parton was not able to attend. She did however do a pre-recorded acceptance speech.
