Goat Review: Animated Basketball Comedy Drama Inspired by Hoop Dreams…

Watching NBA as a kid, you admired your superstars and wanted to be like them. Commercials around the globe advertising the slogan wanting to be like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Today’s stars admired are Luka Dončić, Steph Curry, and of course Lebron James. There’s also been the big debate in the NBA and comparison of the goat (Greatest of all Time) between Michael Jordan and Lebron James. Receiving the label the goat is an honor and achievement. It places the athlete in a special class and it takes years before a new one comes around and takes the place of the previous one. So is the movie ‘Goat‘ a reflection of that?

Goat brings the emotional grit of Hoop Dreams into the animated world, delivering a powerful basketball comical drama rooted in ambition, struggle, and heart. This animated sports film captures the fantasy of chasing greatness while exploring the personal sacrifices behind the game. The film is inspired by four time NBA champion Stephen Curry, one of the producers, with animal cast characters that makes this different from other animated sports films like Space Jam.

Meanwhile, the audiences phone camera video captures the match and goes viral. Flo (voiced by Jenifer Lewis) is the team owner, sees the video and decides she wants to sign Will to the team. Jett is not happy with the decision because she feels the goat is too small to compete.

Will tries to prove himself to Jett by having a one on one to show her he can play. No matter how hard he tries, he still riding the bench until Jett ends up fouling out the game and Will takes her place only to score the winning basket. At that moment, things start to come around for Will and living out his dream by listening to his mother who told him to follow his heart. This fictional roarball league is fast, colorful, and have the biggest and baddest animals playing. Yes, lots of movement and exciting basketball moves. Definitely enjoying the music tracks with the hip hop vibes and pop making feel like the real street ball appeal.
