You, Me & Tuscany Movie Review: Romantic Comedy Showcasing Black Love and Italian Charm

“You, Me & Tuscany” is more than a romantic comedy, it is a love story wrapped in the beauty of Italy’s rolling hills and timeless charm. Directed by Kat Coiro and produced by Will Packer, the film celebrates Black love with warmth, laughter, and heartfelt emotion. Beneath the dreamy Tuscan backdrop is a story about healing, rediscovery, and finding the courage to open your heart again. The movie captures the magic of unexpected romance while reminding audiences that sometime love find you when you are finally ready to receive it.

To be honest, I was a little skeptical about how the onscreen chemistry between Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page was going to work. After all, he is forever linked to the smoldering romance of Bridgerton, while she will always be remembered as the enchanting star of The Little Mermaid. On paper, it feels like an unexpected pairing. But once the film settles in, their connection becomes one of its biggest surprises. They bring out a softer, more playful side in each other that feels natural, making it easy to believe in the romance unfolding between them.

So let’s delve into the film, you have Anna (played by Halle Bailey) who is confused about life after given up her dream of becoming a chef because of a family trauma. She works as a house sitter trying to pretend to be someone she is not. She gets fired and with little money and no place to go, so she books a trip to Tuscany to try to find herself. She came across this idea after meeting Matteo (played by Lorenzo de Moor) at a local hotel bar after being fired. Matteo showed her pictures of his beautiful home and she wanted to experience it live. With all the hotels booked for the annual festival, she decides to break into Matteo’s house to stay figuring he won’t be there for time she’s there. Matteo’s family discovers her and is mislead that her and Matteo are getting married. That’s because she was caught with an engagement ring on her finger that Anna found in Matteo’s draw he had hidden away. Now she’s back pretending to be somebody she’s not but in another country.

Meanwhile, Anna gets introduced to Matteo’s cousin Michael (played by Regé-Jean Page) who is a hard worker and doesn’t get along with his cousin. The two didn’t hit it off at first. However, as time goes on, the two develop some strong feelings for each other. This is making it more complicated in keeping up the lie.

I see why the song ‘Escapade’ by Janet Jackson is a good fit for this film. To go on a whelm to try to have a new look on life, only to find true love is pretty funny and romantic. This film is in theaters April 10th. I rate it a (2.5/4) 🍿
