With all that’s going on in the world today, the film industry decided to take us back, back in time and launch this romantic comedy-drama. Directed by Gregory Berlanti, we are thrust into the 1960’s with NASA and Apollo 11. United States in competition with Russia to make it to the moon. US government wanted the attention from all the people to be tuned in to this spectacular feat. However, there was some skepticism about the mission and didn’t want it to shown as a failure. So they setup a simulation of the moon and fake astronauts to be aired at the same time the actual launch was happening. Funny, a few years ago, conspiracy theories were flying that Apollo 11 lading on the moon was a hoax. Will this movie dispel that notion?
Kelly Jones (played by Scarlett Johansson) is a shrewd and powerful salesperson. She gets hired by NASA as a marketing specialist to pitch the idea of airing live the Apollo 11 landing on the moon to the public. She receives a surprise visit from Moe Berkus (played by Woody Harrelson) who works with the government, has a different idea on how the viewing of the launch to the moon will be viewed. This sends NASA director Cole Davis (played by Channing Tatum) into a frenzy as he is trying to have a success launch since the previous ones had failed and not focus on the public perception. He wants the astronauts to have a safe mission. All three actors definitely embraces their roles with great comedic timing. This film needed to pull these individuals to pull this off. They left the audience wondering if the rumors of a fake moon landing is true? How will the relationship between Keely and Cole turn out?
Since the film is during the 1960’s, it’s only fitting that music would be set for that era. Daniel Pemberton who is know for his music compositions, was hired to do the music score. It will have you tapping your feet from some of the 60’s classics.
Overall this film was very entertaining and keeps you guessing what the next train of events will be. Fly Me to the Moon launches in theaters July 12th and we this movie a (3/4) 🍟
