‘Twisters’ taking the box office by storm…

It seems like in the past 5 years or so, there has been an attempt to do remakes of some historical films. People to cringe when this happens because often times, the remakes don’t seem to match up to the icon film they try to reproduce. This is the case with “Twisters’. When the movie was first mention, the first question was it going to be a sequel to the 1996 film. Safe to say after viewing the movie, “Twisters’ is not a redo. This American disaster film from Universal Pictures, is directed by Lee Isaac Chung. Though there seems to be some similarities, the film has a mind of it’s own. Even the characters roles and story line has a different twist. So lets take a look at some of the cast.

When the previews came out. I thought that the main female character was going to be a replica of Jo (played by Helen Hurt). However, Kate Cooper (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones) has a different encounter than Jo. She is a college student working in Oklahoma as a storm chaser with her college team. She finds herself in over her head when a miscalculation with the equipment “Dorothy” causes her boyfriend plus 2 of her best friends are killed in F5 storm. Kate and Javi (played by Anthony Ramos) are the only survivors of the team. Five years later, Kate has moved to New York in a NOAA office. Javi comes to New York to persuade her to come back to Oklahoma to help out with a new system used to track tornadoes.

Tyler Owens (played by Glen Powell). known as “Tornado Wrangler”, is a storm chaser competitor. He lives life dangerously as he takes himself, his crew, and a journalist into the storm to do a live podcast. Tyler takes a huge interest in Kate for her ability to forecast where the next storm will hit. The two have very different ambitions for chasing twisters. Tyler’s motto is “If you feel it, chase it” while Kate s trying to amend her error which caused her friends their demise. Tyler is way different from 1996 character Bill (played by William Paxton). He kind of reminds you of Jonas Miller (played by Cary Elwes) with a twist.

Overall, the movie is exciting, funny and enjoyable. When seen in a Dolby theater, you really get to feel and experience the special effects that makes the twister enormous and horrifying. Country singer Luke Combs has a song on the movie soundtrack entitled “Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma”. This track pretty much sums up the attitude of the people living there and the devastation it has when the tornado comes and destroys all they worked hard for. We rate this film (3/4) 🍿
