A DreamWorks animation film written and directed by Pete Hastings. Based from the children’s novel series Dog Man by Dav Pilkey, is a spinoff from Captain Underpants. Got a chance to see this film on a Saturday morning with a bunch of kids at the theaters. Did this to see their reaction so I could get a true feel of this film. I must say for a comedy animation, the audience was pretty quiet. That’s right, a room full of kids and silence. No crying, outburst or chitter chatter. Yet, there were moments that made the film incredibly funny and watchable.
How does Dog Man develop, well Officer Knights and his dog Greg are injured trying to defuse a bomb. It severely damaged Knights head and Greg’s body. To save the duo, doctors decide to put Greg’s head on Knights body in which Dog Man is born. The mission is to capture the villain orange cat Petey (played by Pete Davidson) who is longing to get rid of DOG Man. The rivalry between Petey and Dog Man is quite hilarious and entertaining. The film has interesting moments as it delves into Petey’s upbringing however, as the film goes on, there tends to be lulls which keep the kids very quiet. For an animated movie, it still meets the task of entertaining the children. But because of some lack luster moments in the film, I give this a (2 1/2) 🍟. In theaters Friday, January 31st…
