The film is based on a short story written by Susan Hill. Directed by Max and Sam Eggers, The Front Room features Grammy award winner Brandy Norwood, Kathryn Hunter, and Andrew Burnap. This movie is listed as a horror/thriller but is it? It should be named as a suspense/comedy. The audience seem to be on the edge of there seats yet were able to laugh at particular scenes.
Belinda (played by Brandy) is married to Norman (played by Andrew Burnap) a young couple preparing for the birth of their baby. They seem to be happy but are financially struggling. Then when things can’t get any tougher, Norman is forced to take care of his aging stepmother who he doesn’t have a great relationship with. Brandy did an okay job with the character. Her emotions on screen should have been a bit more dramatic. The film was titled thriller but did not receive the reactions from Belinda to make it so.
Speaking of stepmom, Solange (played by Kathryn Hunter) was an absolute nightmare. For a woman that suppose to be very religious, took the biblical studies to another level. She was able to control and convince others to follow her weird practices and gave Belinda and Norman the blues. Kathryn help this film in the horror/thriller category. She kept the audience intense so much, they were actual verbal interacting towards the screen. this kin of reaction I haven’t seen in quite a while.
As far as the music score or soundtrack, there is none. Just like there’s no real horror, gross yes, very. There was plenty of build up but never to what you anticipate a horror, thriller movie to be. However, the audience was entertained and with that, has me to rate a (2/4) 🍿 In theaters September 6th..
