The Naked Gun (2025) Review: A Ridiculously Funny Comedy Reboot..

Generally doing a remake of a popular classic is very risky. Especially one that of a comedic nature. And in this climate where the public opinion is in an all time high in sensitivity, how funny can these jokes be that were funny in the 80’s. Can actor Liam Neeson fill the shoes of the late great Leslie Nielsen role as the son of the great detective Frank Dresbin? So after 30 years, we get to relive the movie that cause us to bust a gut.

The Naked Gun (2025) leans hard into its legacy while firing off a fresh volley of absurdity, Director Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) brings back the rapid-fire gags, visual jokes that the fans loved in the original trilogy. The slap stick jokes hit with ridiculous precision. This reboot proved that even in this day and age, silliness still sells. Especially done with a straight face.

Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson at the premiere

Funny, this movie actually has a plot. Detective Frank Drebin, Jr. tryin to follow in his dad shoes, is trying to prevent the Police Squad from shutting down. He picks up a murder case involving a sinister tech billionaire, Richard Cane (played by Danny Huston). He has invented a device that he wants to use for mass mind control and global chaos. Drebin teams up with Beth Davenport (played by Pamela Anderson) who is the sister of the man killed and suspects Cane has something to do with it. Beth also becomes Frank’s new love interest.

The film maintains its ludicrous behavior from beginning to end, Surprisingly, the audience laughter for 80 minutes of the film is pretty extraordinary. Even the music from Lorne Balfe gives you that ‘Tonight Show‘ sound. So you know you’re in for a bit of laughter. I rate this film a (3/4) 🍿 in theaters August 1st..
