Disney’s ‘Zootopia 2‘ is coming out against some stiff competition of Wicked For Good which was released in theaters on November 21st. This sequel to Zootopia (2016) is directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard. The 2016 film left us with the notion that these 2 crime fighters were going to move on to bigger and better things. Killing the stereotype that a rabbit is not built to be a police officer nor partner with a predator.
So the story commences with Judy Hopps (voice by Ginnifer Goodwin) is partner with Nick Wilde (voice by Jason Bateman) as police officers looking to solve new cases. The movie opens up with the arresting of Mayor Bellwether for injecting predators that made them go savage. Guess they wanted to do a recap and get the audience up to speed before venturing into the present day.
However, there seems to be tension between the two and when the assigned case goes bad, Chief Bogo (voice by Idris Elba) threatens to separate the two and must participate in a support group Partners in Crisis. During their probationary period, Hopps insists on getting a case to prove they are capable of working together. At this point another character surfaces, Gary De’Snake (voice by Ke Huy Quan) at the Zootenial Gala celebrating a 100 years of existence. The gala is hosted by the Lynxley family which holds the key to the true story about the legacy of the reptiles. So Judy, Nick and now Gary are out to seek and unveil the truth.
I must say the technology of this film is very pronounced. The blue snake really enhances the scene and the car chase was very compelling and exciting to see. I believe this helps with the addition of the new characters to the story. The Colombian singer Shakira makes her second appearance as Gazelle a pop star in the Zootopia sequel singing the entitled song “Zoo” This song is very up-tempo and will have you moving to beat. I also found myself laughing quite a bit at this comedy/animated film.
This debut in theaters November 26th. I rate this film a (3/4) 🍿
