When I saw the trailer for this film, I wasn’t too sure it was going to be a hit. I was completely wrong. And I should have known since Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson are in it. Two iconic comedians paired on screen. It was just a matter of who was going to deliver the best and most punch lines. Directed by Tim Story and written by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows, they seem to be in competition with the animated film ‘The Bad Guys 2” with the heist genre. However, adding actress Keke Palmer in the mix may give The Pickup a sleight edge.
it starts off with Travis (played by Pete Davidson) causing an uproar at the bank when he encounters Zoe (played by Keke Palmer) passing him a note which he thinks is a bank robbery but only her phone number. Meanwhile, Russell (played by Eddie Murphy) is planning a romantic dinner with his wife Natalie (played by Eva Longoria) to celebrate their 25th anniversary after his shift. Russell gets paired up with Travis for the day and he makes it clear he wants to be done quickly so can be on time for his special evening.
Travis and Russell set out to do the truck route when suddenly their being chased by Zoe and her two goons to hijack the brinks truck. They need it in order to achieve the main goal which is to do a casino heist worth $60 million. Travis didn’t realize his one-night stand with Zoe was her scheme to help make it happen. Doing this process, there are some twist and turns to keep the suspense at a norm. Full of action and the fight scenes live up to expectations. Keke definitely kicks butt in this category.
The theme song for this film “Make It Hot” by BJ The Chicago Kid featuring Eryn Allen Kane, serves as the film’s signature track that captures its energetic, playful, and stylish tone. Can put this in the playlist. But frankly, this movie was better anticipated from clips advertised. The audience was beside themselves in laughter.
